The task based planning tools contains two planning boards: the Story Board and the Task Board. You can use them to see your progress, visually plan your tasks and update their statuses.
This page describes the common functionalities between the Story Board and the Task Board.

The active sprint, if supported, is selected by default in the planning boards. You may view other sprints or all sprints using the sprint selector on the toolbar.
The owner and the time remaining field of a task or story can also be changed from the planning boards. Double-clicking on the owner or time remaining values on a task or story card will activate the respective editor.

The status of a task can be updated by dragging and dropping a task card to a different column.
The planning boards are “live”, which means any change you made in the planning boards is submitted immediately.
You can create a new user story in the current sprint for the Task Board, or the Backlog for Story Board, by clicking the "Create a new backlog item"
icon at the top of the “Backlog Items” or “Backlog Stories” column, which will open a task editor for a new user story.
You can also create a new task under a user story by hovering your cursor over a story card and clicking the "Create a new subtask"
icon in the lower-right corner.
Double-clicking on the main body of a task or story card will open the task in task editor.
From the planning board toolbar, you can set several types of filters, refresh or schedule the plan, set plan properties, and open help document.

The Refresh button synchronizes the planning board with the task repository.

The burndown chart toggle button toggles the burndown chart in and out of view.
The Assignee Highlight control highlights the stories and tasks that belong to one person or a specific group of people. Click to get a dropdown menu containing all assignees and you may check whose tasks should be highlighted.
The Focus on My Tasks button lets the planning board to only show the stories and tasks that are assigned to you.
