Source Management and Change Sets

The Tasktop Team Connector for Borland StarTeam introduces support for context based change sets when working with resources stored in a Borland StarTeam source repository. When a task is active, edited files are automatically collected under a change set that is associated with the active task.

Note: source management is only available when the StarTeam Eclipse Client is installed. For best results, it is recommended to operate the Synchronize view in the Change Set presentation.

When a file or change set is committed, the commit dialog is populated with a comment describing the associated task. This comment is displayed in the Eclipse history view, and can be used to trace a resource change back to the task that caused it. Additionally, a process item will automatically be selected, linking the task to the files being committed.

Commit Traces

The Borland StarTeam connector can trace any commit made to an SVN, TFS, or StarTeam source repository, and associate it to the given task. In the task repository settings users can set a default source repository to associate with their tasks, and can also set the number of recent change sets to scan against.

When submitting edits to a StarTeam task, you can select the Attach Commit Trace checkbox to scan through your source repository for any change sets committed against this task.

Traces will then be created for every change set that was scanned and added to the Commit Traces section. Users can also select a source repository to scan from this section.
